Some thoughts from our founding Fathers

With it being the 4th of July weekend, I thought it appropriate and timely to give thought to the men who brought us this great nation. So this post is of some of thier more notable quotes that could,"should" be the headline news all though our country.

"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it." John Adams

"The way to have safe government is not to trust it all to the one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to everyone exactly the functions in which he is competent....To let the National Government be entrusted with the defense of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations..... The State Governments with the Civil Rights, Laws, Police and administration of what concerns the State generally. The Counties with the local concerns, and each ward direct the interests within itself. It is by dividing and subdividing these Republics from the great national one down through all its subordinations until it ends in the administration of everyman's farm by himself, by placing under everyone what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the best." Thomas Jefferson

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our selection between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat in our drink, in our necessities and comforts, in our labors and in our amusements, for our callings and our creeds...our people.. must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live.. We have not time to think, no means of calling the mis-managers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow suffers. Our landholders, too...retaining indeed the title and stewardship of estates called theirs, but held really in trust for the treasury, must...be contented with penury, obscurity and exile.. private fortunes are destroyed by public as well as by private extravagance.
This is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering... And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." Thomas Jefferson

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." Thomas Jefferson

I just can't help myself. I have to put a few Obama quotes in here too. Can you tell a difference?

It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations. Barack Obama

One of the great strengths of the United States is... we have a very large Christian population - we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation . Barack Obama

Oh well...maybe one day the people of our nation will learn of the great sacrafices our grandparents made for us.

A facebook comment that got it started

Yesterday, I posed a question on my facebook account. The question was not meant to be political, but rather as an inquiry into how the people I know process information . I was also curious as to how well they understood our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It was also meant as a history test. Needless to say, I got assaulted from the left wingers. Before I go any further, let me restate what it was I posted.

"Gary wonders if Obama goal was to ruin our economy, change our way of life, and destroy our country, what would he do different? "

The responses I got were mixed and varied. Conservative Christians took the opinion that I needed more information, and made supportive comments thinking that I was anti-Obama.
The Liberals were the first to slam me and made comments such as "Bush already done it", and "facebook isn't a political site and I wasn't allowed to make political comments there." The libertarians just didn't care and said they were not responding to political posts. The one bright spot was one lady who told me to give Obama a chance, then she challenged me to discuss it. Her view was extremely skewed by her innate hatred of Bush. Her facts, the few she used, were inacurate. But after serveral lenghty e-mails, and a gentle push in the right direction, she conceded defeat.

But after going through all the above, I still never got an answer to my question. Maybe I should have posed the question in a different way. I am thinking about re-posting it in one of the manners below.

1. Gary wonders how Ronald Reagon brought down the Soviet Union?

2. Gary wonders how the current policies in America conform to Marxism's formula for changing a capitalist society into a communist one?

3. Gary wonders how the Federal Government can make laws that are not ordained to them in the Constitution.

But even then, I am afraid, I would have still gotten the same results. People are motivated by thier own personal agenda's. The hell to the rest of us. So I feel that I now have the right to express my views on the comments I recieved.

To the Libs I say Get A Life. Learn to make a arguement without using the word Bush. Present facts and not your perverted way of thinking the way the world should be. Learn what your "rights" are not what you think they are. You do not have the right to housing, food or any of the many others rights you proclaim. There is no such thing as Gay rights, Abortion Rights, or any of the other headliner claims you make. Pick up a copy of the amendments to our constitution and read the first 10 of them. These are collectively know as The Bill of Rights. These are the only "rights" you have. No more and no less. And to those of you who agree with the commenter who stated that I wasn't "allowed" to make political comments on facebook, maybe you should take time to read, re-read and then read again the 1st amendment. And most importantly to all you Libs out there, remember, A conservative can survive without you and prosper, but a lib can not make it a day without a conservative. You need our money, our resources and our generosity for your programs to work.

To the libertarians that posted I say, your time will come. You can live with your head buried in the sand only for so long. They will come after you too. There is no gray zone, only right and wrong. Make a stand. The bible tells us to be either hot or cold or I will spew you from my mouth. Some of the most far reaching legislation that will affect our country for generations to come is making it's way through congress. By not making a stand for what you believe in makes you worthless. Not unlike your tonsils, you sit there and do nothing until someone steps on your toes and then you flair up with rightous indignation. Do not try and tell me that you are a history buff, independant, a congressional scolar or anything else when I know better. Do not quote to me passages from some obscure auther who has been read by you and 3 of your friends. Do not tell me what the Federal government should do when you don't participate in any form. You stand on this mighty mountain proclaiming your independance until a crisis hits, then you go running to the Feds for them to rescue you. You contribute nothing to the general welfare and well being of our country, but are the first to scream HELP. And when help does arrive, it is never enough. You criticize and complain. But more importanly, you do nothing. You will be forgotten.

To the rest I say thank you. Even if you disagree with me, I love your imput. You are truly what being an American is all about. Your ability to take facts and assertain an opinion is truly a great gift. Your ability to present facts and make a stand for what you believe in is noble. You are the backbone of this country and in the end your gifts will direct the future of this country.

And for those of you to lazy to look up the first Amendment I have posted it here.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

As you ponder these words, take time to look up the history of why it is there and why it is the first of all amendments. You will find that it was originally made to prevent congress from making laws that would hinder a free people. The Supreme Court later made rulings that extended the scope of the law. You might also want to take time to read the "Alien and Sedition Act" .

Well, I guess by now, I have pissed off everybody. But that is Ok if I got you to think. I, by no means, am an expert on the constitution or the history of our nation. But at least I try.
